Desperate Plea!
Hey all. My friend Aaron, is really really daft, and is running the London marathon this coming April. Daft though he may be, I think it's admirable that he wants to raise £750 for charity, and he's chosen to run for Sheffield Children's Hospital. So please, click here, dig deep, and support our local Children's charity. We all hope it won't be, but it could be my kid or your kid someday, so please, whatever you can afford. Even £1 helps, and he can reclaim you tax via giftaid!

If this violates any community rules, feel free to delete it, but please post a message in my LJ telling me you're going to.

Showroom Film Quiz
14th November 2005 (that's this year).

All welcome, we're all going down and having our own fake Hallowe'en (since the quiz of real Hallowe'en cocked up), so dress-up!

Apologies to parroflex and thegreatgonzo, who will by now be fed up with my rampant wailing and gnashing of teeth across this and the ugc_sheffield forum, but I'm so distraught I have to share the awful news with everyone who might possibly give a damn.

UGC - who despite all their faults (and they are many) are a pretty good multiplex cinema group, in case you hadn't noticed - have been taken over by Cineworld - who you might not be aware (unless you, like me, come from a home town which has been afflicted by Cineworld) are the pooiest multiplex cinema chain I've had the misfortune of bumping into.

Rebranding is going apace; the UGC tags have already disappeared and the buildings will stop saying UGC within a couple of months. If we're lucky, they'll have invented a tag which doesn't make you want to claw your eyes out to celebrate the rebrand, but I doubt it.

If I were you, I'd consider making Vue you're new source of mainstream filmic goodness.

To darkeyes_lewj whoever you are :)
Just read your post about wanting to take over this community. Sorry for not getting back sooner. If you are still up for it I'll figure out how to give you ownership.

The Showroom: Serving overpriced alcoholic beverages in stuffy surroundings
But for one night only (although it is monthly) litterally tens of film-geek descend upon it's cafe-bar for the film-quiz. That one night is tonight. Myself, magicalrachel, Vanishingdave, Addam Darnell and maybe a few others will be along

Be there or be elsewhere!

Hmmm.... that final comment wasn't very threatening was it?

Authorship project: Batman request
Hello! This is a request for information on anything to do with Batman.

I need to know about the original comics, the rights to characters, dates, etc.

If you have read the comics and seen the Tim Burton films (Batman, Batman Returns) what was your opinion on the tranformation from page to screen? What were you disappointed / happy about? What are your opinions about the visual representations of Gotham? How do you feel about the characters?

Your thoughts would be appreciated :) If you have a lot to say I would love to interview you.

I think we should try to get this community going again.
I know there are a lot of fil unit-ers out there on LJ, so how about we get back into this?

Apparently my name is down on the log sheet to proj thunderbirds tommorow. I was a little suprised when Paul told me this as I'd already told Alice I couldn't do it. Alice, when I've just had her on the phone, was also confused - she thought it was odd I'd signed up when I'd already told her I couldn't do it.

I'd really like to know who put my name on the sheet please - if Paul hadn't told me I would have got a worring call from a house manager tommorow. Whats going on guys?

I know no one really checks this anymore, but if anyone is listening, we are having something of a crisis here in film unit central (aka the office). Here's the deal: we have no proj for Thunderbirds at 7:30 on Saturday the 11th. Yes, I know... it's the movie for Thunderbirds... which apparently sucks, but it's an emergency. The film will already be made up because of the matinee, so all you have to do is turn up and proj.

If anyone can help in any way, shape or form, please get in touch with Alice as soon as possible. You can email her on the film unit address or on wylfa2000@yahoo.com, or leave a message on the film unit answerphone (0114 2222 8534).

I wish to pass the maintainance of this community to somebody who is actively involved in Film Unit at the moment. Anybody want it?

I reserve the right to reject offers on any grounds including but not limited to muppetry, incompetance and the fact that I just simply don't like you, yes you.

Hello there

Just a note about the Film Unit Meal - some of you may check this before you see the email or something.

Basically, Jen has found a nice restaurant called Hanrahans (on glossop road, opposite the Hallamshire Hospital) for next monday at about 8pm. However they want you to pre-order your food, so if you could get in touch with Jen (film unit email will do) by wednesday at the latest.

I didn't know it did that.

The anamorph lens apparantly has some sort of built-in compensation for being angled down. It was also upside down.

Go figure.

We are seeking the aid of students with dyslexia, who have an ADI

Wednesday 06th October in week 2, and Monday 11th and
Wednesday 12th in week 2 of this semester from 13:00 (1 PM) to

I've lost my grandads wedding ring sometime between Saturday morning and now.
FOr those of you who haven't ever noticed it, it is usually found hanging around my neck on a boot lace.
It is gold and has a black 'ye olde'/gothic 'D' inscribed on it.

Best Case scenario:
I've put it in my room and in it's current state of Chaos it's lying under a book

Worst case:
I might have dropped it at Matt and Vickys 'do',
I might have dropped it at the Nelson
or I might have dropped it at Corp.

Has anybody seen it?

Film Unit End Of Year Meal
WHERE Jumbos Chinese All You Can Eat (by the crucible. And if I can't get us booked in there, the No. 1 Chinese Buffet by Ponds Forge).
WHEN : Thursday 13th May 7.30pm(ish).
WHY : Film Unit end of year meal.
WHO : Everyone who wants to come. And a few who don't
COST : Less than £9 all you can eat (I'm sure someone who can remember will fill in the exact cost).

I need to know numbers, so can people who are interested please let me know BEFORE next Wednesday (5th May)! It would be quite nice to see those people who have also dropped out recently, even if just to say a thankyou and goodbye!

(can a kindly member of the committee (who people are more likely to know and who has a key to the office) please mail this round to people and then try and talk them into coming out and joining us?).
